A Five Acre Ledge Above the Caribbean

Negril’s West End does not do beaches. It does limestone, dropping straight into water clear enough to count the fish from your terrace. The Cliff Hotel occupies five acres of that ledge on West End Road, with every room, suite and villa turned toward the open sea. The property reads as a small village rather than a resort block: low buildings stepped down the rock, gardens between them, ladders and jetty platforms cut into the cliff for anyone who wants to swim. Jamaican photography and island made furniture carry the interiors. By late afternoon the whole place reorients itself westward, because on this coast the sunset is the event.

Why It Works

We kept The Cliff because it answers the question that defines the West End: how to stay genuinely small without feeling underserved. Twenty two rooms and suites and four villas share a full restaurant, a spa, a pool with a swim up bar, a fitness room and a butler team, a ratio most cliffside properties of this size cannot fund. Virtuoso membership is the second signal, an invitation only network that audits service rather than square footage. The third is the ownership’s local footing, expressed through The Cliff Foundation and its work with area schools.

Why This Location

West End Road runs south from the Negril roundabout toward the lighthouse, and The Cliff sits on the stretch where the rock is highest and the traffic thins. The sunset bars that made this coast famous are a few minutes away by taxi, close enough for an evening out, far enough that their sound systems never reach your terrace. Seven Mile Beach waits at the other end of the same road on the days when sand is what you want. Arrival is through Sangster International in Montego Bay, a road transfer of roughly ninety minutes that the hotel will arrange.

Rooms, Suites and the Four Villas

The accommodation climbs from deluxe rooms to junior suites and then to the four villas, which are the reason a good number of guests come back. Each villa carries its own terrace over the water, several bedrooms and a butler who handles everything from breakfast timing to boat bookings, which makes them work for a family or two couples travelling together. Across every category the orientation is the same: the sea first, everything else second.

One Restaurant, Several Bars, One Sunset

The Cliff Restaurant is the anchor, Caribbean cooking served on a terrace with the water directly below, and it is good enough that guests stop planning dinners elsewhere. The bar team makes the case for staying put, and the swim up bar takes over the middle of the day. Private dining can be set up on a terrace or beside the pool for an anniversary or a proposal, which the staff handle often and handle well.

KiYara Spa and the Wellness Side

KiYara Spa occupies its own quiet corner of the clifftop, with treatment rooms positioned for the sound of the water rather than the view of the pool. Signature treatments lean on local ingredients, and the spa anchors the wellness packages built around longer stays. A yoga pavilion, a fitness centre and a beauty salon complete the set, suiting anyone who wants a morning session before the heat and a treatment before sunset.
